Why Is This Opossum All Over Your Blog?
I love this piece of art.
Opossums are not my totem animal. I have never held one. I poked a dead one with a stick ages ago. Does poking roadkill make me a marsupial fan?
Nope.
It all started in November 2020 with a Tina Fey quote:
“I was a little excited but mostly blorft. "Blorft" is an adjective I just made up that means 'Completely overwhelmed but proceeding as if everything is fine and reacting to the stress with the torpor of a possum.' I have been blorft every day for the past seven years.”
This was around the time Mom had a bad cardiac cath followed by immediate open-heart surgery the same week. I wasn't dealing with the stress. I pushed it down. All is well. Nothing to see here. Pardon me while I scream at my own ass.
The banner image comes courtesy of a Twitter friend. He was sixteen when Martin Luther King died. His parents were understandably worried for his safety. They shipped him to his grandfather.
"I was a Black kid thrown in a rural setting," as his story goes. "First time I saw a possum, I ran to the house."
I explained that the image does not qualify as Blorft. Too smug.
"That possum just scared a kid," he replied. "That's why she grinning."
I agree.
So, Dear Readers, welcome [name goes here!...eventually.] She's now a fixture.
It took a while to track down the artist. The image I received didn't have a background and the signature was missing. I tracked it to Miho Kosuge's profile on KindPMG. It is a royalty free image provided the image link leads back to that site. It is signed ANicB.
A second search turned up ANicB on DA. They have beautiful work but I didn't see this image anywhere. They are inactive as of 2017.
